A couple of days ago I posted a picture of a cloud that took my fancy. It elicited a comment from Pat "Nice - but not a patch on the skies of Lewis - or have you forgotten?!" Pat is correct of course some of the skies Lewis has are absolutely fantastic. Skies everywhere can have their wonderful qualities. Some can be clear blue as far as the eye can see in every direction. Some can be flat grey and the eye can only see a few kilometres. All have an appeal. But some just make one want to go out and photograph them. This was yesterday's evening sky.

I'm in the middle of a book on clouds at the moment. These ar Altocumulus lenticularis and, for some reason, NZ is noted for them. The example shown in the book is from Mt Cook. One photo of such a cloud was once claimed to be a UFO photo and lots of people believed it.
