How to Create a Starry Sky

A few nights ago I suddenly wondered what would happen if I tried to catch raindrops with the camera's flash.   Now I know.

  1. Looks good! So, are they really all just raindrops, or are some real stars hidden among them?

    1. Just raindrops: the sky was completely clouded over.

    1. Yes. Our night sky is like that when the full moon isn't out.

    1. Thanks Monica. My thoughts are that now, when it's raining, I can look out and imagine that the raindrops are stars and that it's a lovely clear night.

  4. congrats, GB on your shots!
I tried the same thing one night, but I wasn't sure that I wanted to publish it. My daughter thought I was crazy because there were high winds and lightning that night. She had asked me if I'd been woken by the storm. I said, "No, I was awake and taking pictures of it." That's when she told me I was crazy; I told her that I hadn't gone out. I'm not stupid!

    1. Norma, there's nothing wrong with being crazy once in a while. It's when we are being crazy and not knowing we are being crazy that the problems start. I was standing on my deck which is covered. It's lovely being able to be in the fresh air and the elements without actually getting wet.

  9. You get the same effect with the dreaded Scottish midge and a camera flash. Unfortunately the photo doesn't leave you with a magical feeling just an irresistible urge to scratch!
