Going North (Just for the weekend).

The family are coming for dinner this evening.  Tomorrow first thing I'm off to Mahia with the croquet girls with whom I go to tournaments.  One of our number has a bach there and we're off for what looks like becoming an annual event.  Last year we had a great time but the weather was indifferent to say the least.  I've just watched the 7pm forecast and full sun is promised over the weekend and beyond.  That would be a real bonus.

The downside is that there is no internet and no cellphone coverage so I shall be incommunicado until Monday night.  Hopefully, though, I'll have lots of photos to show for what should be a great weekend.

  2. Hello Graham:
This all sounds to be most interesting and with a promising weather forecast you should, we hope, have a most enjoyable weekend.

When we lived permanently in England we had a croquet lawn but never played seriously. We still have the mallets, hoops and balls in our apartment here!!

    1. Thank you both. I'm sure I will. I've been playing croquet since the second time I came to New Zealand in 2006. I play seriously - both codes! The only other sport I enjoyed (I became a coach) was fencing.

  3. Must be our Welsh heritage; I automatically think 'bark' when I see that word even though I know you've explained before that its more like 'batch'.

Enjoy yourself and don't be too serious about it.

    1. Hi Jenny and thanks. A bach is a country cottage. Originally they were really primitive and some still are. This one has four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a living area almost as big as my Cottage's whole floor area. Primitive it is not! But they are still referred to as baches. You have highlighted a slight problem with my blog template. If you click on bach in the post you will see the Wikipedia article. I need to alter the colour though because it does not stand out sufficiently.

  5. Before I read the other comments I googled bach. And I ended at Wikipedia, but at least I knew to what you referred and how to pronounce it. I almost always learn something new when I read your posts and your brother's. Color me happy!
