Fiona's idea was that we would see the sunset from the Manly Ferry. From a gloomy start the day had cleared up and we set sail on the ferry to Manly from the central wharf in downtown Sydney (see the map on my first post).
Waiting to leave I photographed the amusement park on the other side of the harbour under the Bridge |
and a rather splendid block of apartments. |
The second Manly Ferry coming in as we were leaving |
Leaving the wharf with the CBD as a backdrop |
A view of The Opera House that is rarely shown. |
Out for a quiet sail |
The Rhinos get everywhere. This one is called 'Fragile'. Hmmm. |
Manly Beach on a quiet late afternoon. |
and looking the other way. |
The sun went down in a blaze of ordinariness |
Watching the sun set from the top of the Harbour Bridge |
Returning to port. |
I'd say that sunset was well worth the effort!
ReplyDeleteThank you Red. By the standards I'm used to in Scotland I thought it was rather pedestrian.
DeleteA blaze of ordinariness? I'd call it a blaze of gold!
ReplyDeleteThe huge face of the amusement park is rather scary. I think I'd have been really afraid of that as a little kid.
Beautiful beach, and people seem to really have been mostly there for a quiet relaxing afternoon, nothing of the hectic (and noisy) beach sports and other activities you sometimes see in such places.
It seems that I'm outnumbered Meike when it comes to the sunset. Yes, the atmosphere was very much more relaxed than at some of the other beaches.
Deletewow - looks great!
ReplyDeleteFiona everyone told me that Manly had to be visited and Fiona (Mo's, that is) already had it on the agenda: mainly I think for the ferry ride with its views right along the harbour.
DeleteIt's a grand sunset. I could never spend this much time in a city but enjoy seeing it through your camera.
ReplyDeleteAdrian as you know I'm not a lover of cities but I can cope for this length of time just to get the experience.
DeleteThe amusement park is called Luna Park. There is something about seeing a city light up from the water that makes it very exciting. Some great images of Sydney GB.
ReplyDeleteThanks Carol for that information. Cities lit up do look so different: they have an almost unreal air about them.
DeleteYou certainly managed some splendid views of Sydney, including some unusual angles of the Opera House. I was never a huge fan of amusement parks - even as a child I preferred firm ground under my feet!
ReplyDeleteMonica I think the first large amusement park I ever went to was Efteling in Holland with the children when they were young. I've never been a great lover of them either but Efteling was quite special and I can even now remember the litter bins which said 'thank you' in a dozen languages when anything was thron in them. Kids used to scour the place for something to put in them and they certainly ensured a litter-free area.
DeleteWonderful! Your eye + camera as usual gives us all such pleasure. The beach does look very nice, and I usually like my beaches deserted..
ReplyDeleteKate in Sydney in the summer deserted and beaches are two words that don't go together.
DeleteGeweldig mooi en heel indrukwekkend.
ReplyDeleteBas, dank u.
DeleteWonderful photos, as always, and SUN!
ReplyDeleteYes Frances the sun appeared and we were grateful for it.
DeleteWhat a lovely boat excursion....I totally enjoyed the trip.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the pic of the backside of the Opera House, I had never seen it before.
I think I would have pretended to push the rhino out of the way for a crazy photo op. I may have taken a ride on the ferris wheel as well at Luna Park.
Yes Virginia it was a very enjoyable trip. I've never been on a ferris wheel that I can remember so I'd join you.
DeleteI have always wanted to see Sydney. Thanks for sharing these photos.
ReplyDeleteI wish I was on that Manly Beach right now.
Kay Sydney is a lovely city but I also love Perth and have never seen Melbourne , Canberra or Brisbane. It's a big country.
