After our early tour of Woolloomooloo and it's harbour, naval base and very expensive apartments we set off for the Domain, Royal Botanic Gardens and the Sydney Opera House and a closer view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
|
A dull start to the afternoon with the Opera House and Bridge seen from the Domain on the other side of the harbour |
|
The CBD as seen from the Domain with the Royal Botanic Gardens in the foreground |
|
Government House (which vaguely reminded me of the Lews Castle) which the notices said was open to the public but all entry was prohibited (Someone suggested that it was to do with an impending visit in April by one of the Princes. Must need a lot of preparation if that's the case!) |
|
Government House from the gardens: again entry prohibited |
|
The smallest and closest of the 'sails' to the Royal Botanic Gardens. It hides the others behind it from this viewpoint. |
|
Then you realise that the right-most 'sail' (the one in the picture
above this one) is tiny in comparison with the ones behind it |
You are touring a very beautiful city. I didn't realize there was such lush vegetation in that area.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of lush vegetation in Sydney Red and even more when one goes inland. I shall show you the Blue Mountains in a post soon.
DeleteAnother good look round.
ReplyDeleteGovernment House reminds me of the house on Marine Drive in Edinburgh.
I suspect the prince is emigrating. They'll be giving it a lick of paint before he moves in.
I suspect, Adrian, that someone got that style established and copied it around the world. Rather like waking up in a Holiday Inn: one could be in any country in the world and not know until you stepped outside.
DeleteTwo very different landmarks, old and (relatively) new. This is the first time I see a picture taken of the Opera House so close-up. Must be rather impressive!
ReplyDeleteIt's very impressive Meike: much more so than I imagined.
DeleteInteresting pictures sir though I had been led to believe that it is always sunny in Australia - even at night. Your photos prove otherwise,
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly not always sunny in Sydney YP, that's for sure.
DeleteVery impressive photos (again), like Meike I don't think I've ever seen a close-up of the Opera House before, only the views from afar. Did you go inside?
ReplyDeleteI don't think, Monica, that I've ever see close-ups before either.
DeleteGood lord, still clouds over Sydney! My illusions are crumbling by the minute..... :D
ReplyDeleteDon't worry Jenny there's plenty of sun to come.
DeleteA beautiful city which I hope to visit one day, but until then I will continue to enjoy your wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteOf course you know the well manicured gardens at Government House caught my eye.
Virginia, Sydney has parts of great beauty although, to some extent, the fact that it is also a giant traffic jam at times detracts from some of it.
DeleteLove your shot of the smallest sail, have never seen that before. Thanks.
ReplyDeletePauline it's not a view one sees very often in pictures is it?
DeleteAfter the city-ness and concrete, the green and flowers outside the Gummint House was almost shocking. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYes, Kate, the whole of the Domain and Botanic Gardens is wonderfully verdant.
