Eastern Rosella

Friday evening I arrived in Tauranga having had a wonderful drive in the sun.  In the garden I was puzzled by a constant scolding by some invisible birds high up in a Tanekaha.  Then one showed itself.  It was an Eastern Rosella.  Originally from Australia these parrots have established populations in New Zealand.

  1. Very pretty Polly! Your talk of invisible birds reminds me that I've had neighbours who in summer put their exotic birds out on their balcony where they get all excited and produce noises (sorry, song) that sound very strange in our kind of neigbourhood. (I never see them, just hear them!)

  2. We have a flock of feral parrots that are green with read cheeks I think that they are called red masked parrots, boy are they ever loud!

  3. Fantastic shots! And I should know, because I know how tall that tree is!

  4. Oh, I love those birds. Good captures. One of the things I miss about Oz is the brightly coloured and oh so raucous birdlife.

  5. I have to say that parrot scolding is rather less to my aural taste than the song of most of the birds that we have in New Zealand.
