Landing the Catches

Just a few kilometres from the bach where we were staying was the little settlement of Pukenui where there is a jetty and a small harbour.  One afternoon we arrived in time to see several boats unloading their catches: a fishing boat and a mussel harvester.

  1. The boats look remarkably new.

    1. Now that you mention it Adrian most of the boats seem fairly new or very well maintained. This is in sharp contrast to Lewis where the boats seem to be ancient (and possibly less than spotlessly maintained).

  2. I always enjoy wandering around small fishing villages....fishermen are hard working individuals who always have tall tales to tell about "the one that got away."
We don't have any mussel harvesters here, so it was nice to see one.
What kind of fish did they catch?

    1. There was a wide variety of fish (I just showed one box out of very many) Virginia and I'm afraid that I can't identify any of them.

  3. Ah. Clouds! Now I'm a tiny bit less envious.

    Lovely photos, as always.

    1. The strange thing is Frances that the clouds appeared inland from us each evening and were sometimes very threatening but they never actually produced anything and were gone by morning (except on the last day).
