A Northland Miscellany

That really was one huge piece of tree - shame about the electricity pole
Adrian to the rescue:  What pole?  I really must learn to use my Photoshop program.

No Exit from Salvation eh?
Enjoyed the name over the garage rather than the colour!
Carpe diem
The bach we stayed in at Houhora on the water front with the Phoenix Palm in between.
I couln't help wondering whether 3142 had a significance because it was obviously a 'treasured' plate
It's a hard life but someone has to do it
They went thataway!
Doing what Kiwi kids do!

    1. Doreen the house in the third photo is a holiday home (called a bach - pronounced batch) but was big enough to be a family home.

  2. Lovely, lovely! The kayak kids remind me of mine own of course.
I don't suppose you can remember where the whale was?

    1. The whale, Katherine? Of course. Silly me. I saw a bipedal dinosaur. It was at the end of Beach Road, Houhora.

    2. I saw a dinosaur too. But is it a sculpture or just something nature created??

  5. And remember Cemetery Road, the one before Salvation Rd - or after, depending whether you were coming or going? You got a great shot of the two boys in the creek.

    1. Yes Pauline but I didn't manage to get a photo of it. I managed quite a few of the children - they were quite amusing at times.

  6. A great selection of pictures, all of them special!
My guess about the 3142 is that it is the car owner's date of birth: 3rd of January, 1942 (or 1st of March, 1942, depending on which way round they do it there).

    1. Ah yes Meike. That would make sense. Here we do it DDMMYY. I really should have made that connection too.

  7. Thanks Adrian. Adrian came to the rescue and removed the pole from the first photo. I've amended the post accordingly. It looks so much better and, Katherine, it is a whale!

    1. Adrian worked his magic using Photoshop Frances. Pole gone and piece of tree grafted into its place. Who says that the camera never lies? It rarely tells the truth in actual fact.

  10. Loved this hodge podge of wonderful photos.
Adrian to the rescue again...I may have to take some tutorials from him someday.
I liked them all but I loved the "They went thataway" shadow photo the best.

  11. I like them all. The Salvation Road No Exit is a great sign. Even greater if the yellow house was on that road...

    1. Thanks Monica. The yellow house was next to the bach we were staying in.

    2. Well, they're both great signs, even separately :) I was just thinking that together they'd make a really awesome address...
