The First BBQ of The Season

It's been late coming this year when many Kiwis will have been BBQing for several months (and that's not counting those who BBQ all year around) but this evening Martin cooked a BBQ.  It's been a fabulous day - I played two croquet matches: one this morning and one this afternoon.  After we'd eaten The Family and Misty went for a walk.  I came as far as The Cottage and then retired to watch an episode of Midsomer Murders and have a wee brandy.  Tomorrow is another day and I know it will be busy with a trip to the farmers market and then visitors in the late afternoon.

Today is the longest day.  Although at the solstice the sun actually stands still for a moment in astrological time before reversing to all intents and purposes our days will get shorter from now on (scary thought in that I've only been back here a short time) and if you are living in the Northern hemisphere your days will be getting longer.

  1. Don't you just love BBQs? Easy meals ~ casual dining ~ few laughs ~ fresh air ~ aaaah!

    1. Yes Carol I do: relaxed companionable food (and, in the evening, wine). What can be better?

  2. You were up late writing this, I suspect. Two reasons.
It's been a lovely summer for BBQ's so far!

    1. I was Katherine and it has been although everyone in The Family has been too busy so far on the days when it's been suitable (which, for various reasons, means only Saturday evening). Now the children are home and Wendy and Martin have 'broken up' for Christmas too. Two reasons? I haven't worked that out yet this morning.

    2. 1. "After we'd eaten The Family and Misty" Like me but not like you to write this ;-)
      2. The date of your post was today 22nd yet you refer to 'today' and all the things you'd done. I think you posted just after midnight...?

    3. I think that the 'went for a walk' is rather important in that sentence Katherine however your sleuth mind certainly caught me on the second point. I wrote the post about 11pm but decided at the last minute that, as I'd already done a post that day, I'd schedule this one for the 22nd. Silly, and tired, me.

  3. It all looks gorgeous! I am sitting here, watching the snow melt in the rainfall and watching the fog roll in. Typical Washington December! Just off to do the last bits and pieces of shopping for the Big Day on Wednesday. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas, GB. All the best, xoxox

    1. It is gorgeous Carol. From the deck one can see for a long way with not another dwelling in sight. I must think about shopping for Christmas. ...... Okay I've thought about it. That'll do until next year. Have a restful and enjoyable holiday.

    1. Thanks Jaz. I hope that we'll have many more too. Somehow our summer has only just started now that the children are all home. I wish for you and your family a wonderful Christmas too.

  7. Oh well. At least that means our days are going to get longer. Give my love to the sun, GB.

    1. There's always a Glad Game side to things Frances. I'll give your love to the sun when I see it. My optimism says that the clouds that have arrived this morning will be gone by 4 o'clock this afternoon.

    1. I suspect that there's a few too many of you for an ark these days Norma. I hope it's stopped raining.

  10. I'm only a couple of barbies ahead of you. Suspect there are many more in the near future, heading off to Mangawhai tomorrow for a week. Will try to resist eating The Family and the pets.

  12. Not being quite the BBQ type myself, I am happy for you that you were able to have one together. And YES, our days up here will get slowly but surely a little longer every day. I'll be out there running across sunlit fields again before I know it!

    1. You will indeed Meike. Sunlit fields I like. Running across them is for people other than me. I'll just walk and take in the ambiance thanks.

  13. GB - Croquet? Isn't that a kind of knitting with hooks? Clearly you are a very liberated fellow to admit to such a hobby! Any chance of a shawl for next Christmas?

    1. A shawl for next Christmas YP? I can just see you sitting in a corner with a shawl over your knees but you'll need one for your head and shoulders too. I'll see if I can manage a matching set.
