We've had our fair share of sun this spring and summer so far. I was in town a few days ago and some of the old vehicles were sitting down on Marine Parade. It's a happy place.
Late afternoons most days last week we had thunderstorms to clear the air and leave the evenings nice and cool. This photo doesn't really tell you how dark the clouds were but they were very, very dark.
I should add that it's just been on The News that Napier was the hottest place in New Zealand today at 31℃.
What is the car in the second picture, please. An MG?
ReplyDeleteWould you believe CJ that I see that car all the time and despite a post in 2007 http://rotowhenua2.blogspot.co.nz/2008/03/vintage-cars-first-instalment-local.html I can't find a post on it. I'm sure to have other photos but I'll make sure I do a separate post soon. I think it may be an Austin Seven with a NZ or Australian body. I'll find out.
DeleteYes I would say it's an Austin Seven.
DeleteNice cars and they look so at home in front if those old buildings. That is the Art Deco architecture I was referring to a few days ago isn't it? We are building up for more rain too.
ReplyDeleteNZ is full of old cars many of which are used on a daily basis (like WHATHO in the picture). The buildings are Carol. Napier is the Art Deco capital of NZ and possibly the Southern hemisphere.
Delete31C! The wistful sigh you just heard was mine, Graham. Actually, I can't complain, it has not been that cold here yet; most days this month, we've had unseasonably mild weather with sun and temperatures reaching nearly 10C during the day. But I do fear that we'll "pay" for that mild December by a long, protracted, cold and nasty winter in spring, like we had this year well into April.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, it is the shortest day of the year today for this part of the globe, and from tomorrow onwards, there will be a tiny bit more light every day.
Meike just as your days are about to get longer those in the Southern Hemisphere are about to get shorter. I can hardly believe it. I've only just arrived!
DeleteThe last picture is particularly lovely - and as I gaze out at a leaden sky here in London I envy your 31 degrees! Actually it has been bright and sunny for the last three days, although cold. I am just hoping the rain holds off as there is a rose I should have planted out AGES ago! Thank you for your nice letter, by the way. It has joined a few others in my mailbox which I hope to reply to this weekend.
ReplyDeleteJenny on the odd occasion that I feel homesick for Scotland and a Scottish winter I think of days like today when I played croquet matches morning and afternoon and spent an entire day in the warm, nay hot, sun and I am cured.
Deletewat geweldig mooi die old timers ze zien er ook zo mooi onderhouden uit.
ReplyDeletestiefbeen hier in Nieuw-Zeeland zijn er heel veel oude auto's zeer goed verzorgd.
Deleteour weather is awful - glad you are enjoying the hot sunny weather - I'm not jealous -!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes Carol I'm getting daily updates from Pat. It's not good I gather. It's making me feel really guilty!!!!!
DeleteThanks for that Graham. I am so pleased you are having such wonderful weather. It is pouring with rain here, blowing a real hooley and cold - we have even had a bit of snow this morning. I am now about to walk the dog - if I can stand up in the wind that is!
ReplyDeleteYes Pat. Gaz and Carol started out from Glasgow over 12 hours ago and are now holed up in Portree waiting, with hope, that the ferry will sail from Uig to Tarbert tomorrow (your Sunday). If not Monday and Tuesday are looking unlikely with even worse weather forecast.
DeleteLove those old buildings and old cars....looks like a movie set....and to think you get to enjoy it while you're there.....awesome.
ReplyDeleteIt is, Virginia, a bit like living on a movie set particularly during Art Deco weekend.
DeleteI could have sworn I just put in a comment here but it seems to have got lost... I'm not sure I'd really want +31°C, but I certainly would not mind a little glimpse of sun. We have around +7 and one rainstorm upon another... Not anyone's favourite Christmas weather, I think!
ReplyDeleteI think you commented on FB Monica. It's back down to 20°C today and I think that's far too cold. If, however, I were in Scotland I'd be dressed for it.
DeleteGB You see that green sedan in the second picture? I took a photo of it in January 2012 - down by Marine Parade, Napier. I bet it has figured in many photo collections.
