Thankful Thursday

Today I'm going to be trivial and materialistic.  OK I'm probably both of those things a lot of the time because my actions rarely match my ideals.   You will possibly remember (well you will if you read my Tuesday post) that I dropped my HTC smartphone down the loo.  Did you know that that is one of the most common reasons for cellphones being claimed for on insurance?  Well that's what I read.  Anyway after being in a box of rice for a few days and then in the heat of the sun for a day I took my courage in both hands last night, put the battery and SIM car back in and switched it on.  It worked.  The information on it was backed up so I wasn't worried about that but it does mean that the £500 replacement cost has been saved.

So today I'm truly thankful for the fact that my cellphone is alive and well.

  1. Hooray. Very pleased your solution worked. Perhaps it's an Asian phone if it enjoys rice and sun.

  2. So rice and sun is the cure? Good to know - should I ever happen to be in the same situation (rather unlikely, since the only times I have my mobile in a pocket of what I am wearing, it is my padded winter coat... and I usually don't go to the loo wearing that).

  4. Great. So pleased that you have been saved from another £500 outlay.
It obviously works for cheaper phones (£100)too. As you know, I did the same thing a few weeks ago but after 10 days drying out on a windowledge above a radiator, it too sprang into life when put together. The only difference being that now when it "bing bongs" on the arrival of a text, it makes a distinctly grumpy and growly sound. Sore throat perhaps?!

  5. I like CJ's comment. Glad the rice worked. But that might have been a bit more difficult had the item been a damp vacuum cleaner (no, I didn't drop it down the loo). The hot water cupboard worked for that job.
