This looks like an ordinary photo of the scene from The Cottage's deck. Doesn't it? Well it's not quite what it seems because it was taken at 0153 yesterday (Wednesday) by the light of the silvery moon.

Notes on my life when in New Zealand
Good heavens! That is amazing.
ReplyDeleteThat is a long exposure. It's remarkably noise free.
ReplyDeleteI'd never have guessed!
ReplyDeleteHow did you do that?
ReplyDeleteLove the lavendar moon shadows!
ReplyDeleteCrikey! That's unbelievable, SP
ReplyDeleteI often am up and about when the moon is full (or, as in this case, almost full) and I can wander around The Cottage or outside almost as if it were daylight. Photos I've taken in the past haven't really worked at all. In this case I used an ISO of 2300 and 30 sec exposure at f3.2. I would have expected a lot of noise and I'm not sure why there isn't much. Burnout? Of course it doesn't give the real impression I was looking for of moonlight but I thought it was interesting nevertheless. I shall continue experimenting.
ReplyDeleteTry spot metering green and dropping a stop.
ReplyDeleteUse a tripod and a low iso f5.6. The sky should then look more like night. I was going to play but haven't seen the sky for ages,
