Jellyfish

I'm not a great fan of jellyfish and I am probably far from alone.  On the Mahanga Beach there were lots of tiny blue jellyfish.  I've not managed so far to identify them.  However the last photo is a singularly unpleasant little creature which packs a considerable punch.  As we had all been walking barefoot on the beach and there were a lot of these there was probably an element of luck involved in our pain-free enjoyment.

  1. Thanks for size reference. We often get plenty of jelly fish on our west coast, yellow ones (burning) or 'translucent' (harmless but yucky) but they're both much bigger. So did you put your shoes back on when you discovered the jellyfish?

  2. No. I love walking on the sand and in the surf in bare feet.

  3. I've read some pretty painful accounts of jelly stings, especially Man of War! You're braver than me, walking around barefoot!

  4. Whoa...never have I seen one looking so close up. Nice shots, Graham.

  5. One of the many sensible uses for Coca Cola is for the treatment of jellyfish stings. A beautiful little creature.
