A Jump Shot

Yesterday and today there was a Golf Croquet Doubles Tournament at the Te Mata Croquet Club. This is a jump shot being performed by one of New Zealand's top women players, Erica Stephens.

The blue ball lifts off the ground

It hits the top cross bar of the hoop and drops down

onto the red ball

Because of the forward spin on the blue ball it spins itself forward through the hoop and the red ball backwards out of the hoop.

The hoop has been made by the blue ball

  1. Wow, that is skill! Physics and sports and fun at the same time!

I am still utterly bamboozled by croquet, it is such a strange sport...

I do love your blogging about it, it makes me see it from the eye of a professional (what's the word?) crocketeer! Nothing could be better than that to learn. (Hm, I now realize "croquet player" would do just as well here. Well, nothing wrong with making up words now and then!)
