Sleeping on a Log

Some people walk over stream on a log and some can do that and sleep on one too.

You Just Never Know

Well things often just don't go as expected. When I finished the last posting I was all set to do a little housework and then go off to play pétanque which I have not done for several months. Ten minutes later the phone rang. Wendy. Would I like to go for a walk with the family to the Tangoio Reserve and the Te Ana Falls? Just for a couple of hours. Yea right. What a wonderful afternoon. You see, Heather, I love the trees too.

No. You just never know what life has in store for you.

Wild Goats

When we went walking at Tangoio a few days ago we saw a herd of wild goats up on the hillside. Yesterday I saw a hare at fairly close quarters - a wonderful view with its long hind legs which made me realise just how large a hare can be.  Unfortunately I had no opportunity to get the camera open before it went.  Likewise when I was chatting to Sue on the phone yesterday morning a large female brown rat walked past my study window and was gone before the camera would switch on.  There was an advantage in the old mechanical cameras.

Te Ana Falls, Tangoio

On Tuesday Wendy and I went with the three youngest and a friend to the Tangoio Walkway about 10 minutes North of Napier on the Gisborne road. It was a very warm, though quite dull, afternoon but the children had a wonderful time in the pool and then whilst Wendy and I and Catriona walked up to the falls lookout (quite a steep and muddy walk) the boys did things that boys have always done in the stream leading from the pool ie made a dam and a fort and a lot of noise and so on.
