Thankful Thursday

Today I started this morning thinking about the very simple things of life starting with driving with the roof down soaking up the the warmth of the sun.

By the time I came to write this post this evening so much has happened during the day and yet, at the same time, so little has happened.

A few days ago my right eye (the only one I can see out of properly) started giving me some trouble.  A visit to the Doc determined that there was nothing in it and no visible sign whatsoever of anything untoward.  She prescribed an anaesthetic eye drop.  It's still giving me trouble but not so serious as to impair my vision.  My eye just feels as though it has a boulder in it.

That made me think of my brother, CJ, of Jaz and of Friend Whom I'd Trust With My Life and all their much more serious vision problems.  It's made me think just how very precious our eyes are.

So today I am very thankful for something so many of us take for granted, our eyesight.

More than that I hope beyond hope that CJ and Jaz's sight improves quickly and that Sue never has to go through more operations.

Thankful Thursday

Last Thursday Jaz of Treacy Travels wrote a blog post entitled Thankful Thursday.  I though 'What a wonderful post'.  I spent a while contemplating the things for which I am thankful and for which I feel thankful every day that I wake.  Then when I was awake in the middle of the night one night I wrote some of the things down starting with being thankful that I don't suffer from insomnia.

The interesting coincidence was that one of the books I read when I was on the journey across the world was Alexander McCall Smith's The Lost Art of Gratitude.  'She had not expected him to thank her: indeed she rarely expected anybody to thank her for anything.  Gratitude was a lost art, she felt.  People accepted things, took them as their right, and had forgotten how to give proper thanks..........he had at least said thank you and she, in turn, was thankful for that."

So today I am especially thankful for:

Another Update

Hi my Blogging Friends.  It's been quite an busy few days and I'm writing this at 0600 before we get ready to go to the Tournament.  Staying with friends of one of The Gang with whom I go to tournaments means that even in the evenings there are few spare minutes to blog or email without appearing rude and we are out at 0745 each day.  Being the driver and playing at two separate clubs means a round trip each morning.

On the CJ front the news last night was good and he is now in a ward and sending his love.

I've not being playing well this season and I came to this Tournament (one of the most important tournaments in the golf croquet calendar) just to enjoy myself and not worry about the results.  It's just as well because I couldn't make my close hoops for love nor money.  Somehow I have managed to alter my swing and am jabbing the close ball.  But, hey, yesterday apart from that I played well and really did enjoy myself even though I lost most of my games.  Bummer, eh.  But wotthehellarchiewotthehell much worse things happen at sea.

And the world gets smaller doesn't it?  Fi from Four Paws and Whiskers who lives and teaches in Christchurch commented on the last entry that one of her students was playing.  He's one of the Top Players and I played hime first off yesterday.  I lost 4:7 but it was a good game so I was well pleased.

News Update

The best news is that CJ/Scriptor is doing better and was well enough to send his love a while ago.

At the Golf Croquet Nationals Zoe and I missed being second in our group by 1 hoop but ened up in the top four and are playing in the semi finals today.  Whatever it will be an interesting day.  I am so proud of Zoe.  She was an 11 at the Nationals last year and now she is a 5.
