Suck a Bubble

Fraser being Fraser couldn't resist catching bubbles in his mouth.  Rather him than me I have to say.

More Bubbles

Each year the children (adults are children for this purpose) get a bubble blower in their stocking.  Last Christmas I posted on the developments in the bubble blowers.  Well this year we all got small bubble blowing kits as usual but there was also one huge development in the field this year:

Bubbles

This Christmas the children, as usual, had some pretty expensive presents including a season's access to the ski slopes of Mt Ruapahu.  However the presents that seem to have claimed the most attention on Christmas Day have been simple ones.  Not the least of these are the bottles of bubble fluid and blower that everyone received in their stocking (including me!).  So following on from the science of advanced bubble blowing equipment upon which I posted two Christmases ago in Bubbles I have discovered that considerable advances have been made in bubble blowing equipment in those two years.  The new bubble ring design is as demonstrated by Catriona, right.

Wendy, in particular, seemed to be having a great time perfecting the bubble shower and speculating on how high bubbles can and do rise into the air.  Certainly some disappeared from view before, presumably, bursting.

I was fascinated by the fact that in a shower of bubbles some appeared to reflect a spectrum of colours and some appeared completely clear and colour free.  Chasing the perfect picture of a bubble occupied many happy moments on Christmas Day.

Bubbles

There was a time when blowing bubbles involved a simple hoop of wire or plastic with a handle.  Science hadn't really been applied vigorously to the issue of creating multiple bubbles from a single blow. This Christmas we (me included) received a bubble blowing kit in our Christmas Stocking. Not that I realised what it was. Entitled Rainbow Set Hubble Bubble I thought it was bubblegum and was exceedingly amazed at Wendy and Martin allowing such a thing (for the record I don't think they do).  What puzzled me, however, was the addition of the words 'Anchor-hold innocuity' on the label.  Anyway the science of bubbleblowing having been applied I discovered that the simple hoop had been replaced by a hoop with teeth, the purpose of which is to increase the amount of fluid held and thus allow the creation of multiple bubbles with a single breath.  Awewsome.
