Minty

The friends of Wendy and Martin who have been sleeping in the spare bedroom in The Cottage have departed for the rest of their New Zealand adventure.  They are travelling in Minty.  Minty is a 1958 VW Kombi.  What a grand old dame she is too.  She can actually reach about 80% of the NZ National speed limit (100 kph) downhill with a following wind.  She’s not great on modern creature comforts but she certainly has (some of) the basics.  Interestingly she has a sat nav!

  1. ADORABLE. My oldest would like to see this, I'll have to show him when he comes home from school today. He'll appreciate it as much as I :)

  2. I love the VW camper. I'm hoping to spend some recreational time behind the wheel of one sometime in the not-to-distant future.

  3. Love Minty. These were all the rage in California when I was a teenager growing up in Nevada. I remember that my uncle had one. I understand completely what you mean about reaching the maximum speed going downhill WITH a tail wind!!! I've seen them trying to climb the highway through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Almost took as long as the covered wagon trains!

They make really cool "hippie" vans, though.
