Minty

The friends of Wendy and Martin who have been sleeping in the spare bedroom in The Cottage have departed for the rest of their New Zealand adventure.  They are travelling in Minty.  Minty is a 1958 VW Kombi.  What a grand old dame she is too.  She can actually reach about 80% of the NZ National speed limit (100 kph) downhill with a following wind.  She’s not great on modern creature comforts but she certainly has (some of) the basics.  Interestingly she has a sat nav!

Rent a Sense of Humour

One thing that can be said about several of the vehicle hire companies is that they have a sense of fun and humour:

Kiwi Caravans

It is, unless I have had my eyes closed when I've been on holiday in Europe and even in Australia, a peculiarly Kiwi thing to decorate caravans. On my last visit Steve and I went on holiday to South Island. Motor caravans seem to be more popular and plentiful there even than they are in North Island. I hope that in my Blog next visit I'll be able to expand on this but for the time being here are a couple of vans that Mo and I saw at Mt Ruapehu.
