It's 10 o'clock in Dannevirke

I'm in Dannevirke.  It's 10pm on Tuesday which means that it's 10am in most of Continental Europe,  9am Tuesday in the UK, 5am Tuesday in Georgetown,  4am Tuesday in Sarnia/Toronto and 1am Tuesday in California.  How informative and how boring is all that?

The Girls are asleep and I'm tired and will soon be asleep too.  We will all be up at the crack of dawn for the start of the Veterans' Croquet Tournament at 8.30 in the morning.

It's been a strange day (so what's new?) starting with the expectation of ferrying a sick child to the Doc for a certificate to say that he couldn't attend school for an exam (he went to school anyway) and being the NZ call centre for dear friend Pat on Lewis whose computer had disengaged itself from the internet and her lifeline to the real world - er, cyberworld.  It's one of the few ways I can repay her for all that she does for me looking after my affairs in Scotland while I'm swanning away into the New Zealand sun (well that's the theory).

Bye for now.  More soon.

  1. Either something is seriously wrong with the World Clocks, or you fell asleep while writing... ;) Anyway, I wish you good luck with the tournament which, I take it, will be starting in ten minutes or so from when I send off this comment. Good to know where you are. I like those Scandinavian-sounding names in NZ!

    1. I fell asleep whilst writing Monica! There's lots of Scandinavian places in New Zealand. On the way here we passed through Norsewood about which I have posted on a number of occasions and on which you have commented.

    2. Well, aren't I getting to know you well ;) Yes I knew there was another Scandinavian name somewhere in that neighbourhood but I had forgotten what it was so thanks for reminding me. I know so much more about New Zealand than I ever did before entering the Blogworld, and much of it thanks to you!

Good luck in the tournament whatever time it occurs!

Oh ye with the Midas croquet touch, at the rate that you are going, do you really need me to wish you Good Luck?

    1. Thanks Virginia but unfortunately the magic left me. I didn't play well today but the sun shone and for the first time since I came back I played croquet in shorts.

  4. Hope you have a good day, or night, or last week, or next week, or whenever it is that you play!
BTW...surely you don't mean you have to take a child to a doctor to get an excuse to miss a day/exam at school? Whatever happened to a note from a parent?

    1. I played today Jill and I'll be playing for the next four days. Yes that's exactly what I meant about taking the child to the doctor. Parental notes are not acceptable for missing important exams.

    2. Wow! I wonder how that would play here in the US?

  5. The only reason for time is so that everything doesn't happen at once.

Have a good hit, wallop and most of all enjoy setting the hoops up.....My favourite bit is watching you hoop setting.

    1. Thanks Adrian. Fortunately I do not have to prostrate myself at this tournament because another club is running it and setting the hoops. I (and everyone else!) just have to try and get the balls through the gap which is 1/16" wider than the ball so accuracy is paramount.

    1. Thanks Lisa. Unfortunately I lost one of the games and I don't think I'm in contention for this section of the tournament. We'll see tomorrow. There's still two sections to go though.

  7. When I read your post last night, it was not yet 8.00 pm in Germany, so your listing of local times confused me a bit. But that is what time can be like sometimes - rather confusing, even though it is entirely linear (at least while we are all on the same planet).
Glad to know you were able to help Pat with her computer problem. Friendship is certainly not about "paying back", but it is nice if things are not entirely one-sided.

    1. Unfortunately Meike I fell asleep whilst writing the post and posted it this morning. Hopefully the relative times where correct though. For example I always find it strange when flying from New Zealand to Los Angeles that one arrives in LA several hours before one took off from Auckland.

As you say too friendship transcends "paying back" but it is nice to be able so to do.
