South Island From Above

When I flew up from Christchurch recently the weather was beautiful and I had one of the few seats on the plane suitable for photography.  These are a few photos of the mountains in North East South Island around the Seaward Kaikoura Ranges.  For me they have a magical, mystical quality.  Please don’t look at them as photos but as images (if that makes sense).

  2. Why do I need to travel when I can do it vicariously through you. Great images or photos (I knew what you meant really).

  4. Looking at them "as images" makes perfect sense. They have a dreamlike quality to them. I'm reminded of the mountains in the Lord of the Ring films.

  5. Thank you. New Zealand from above is pretty special. But then so are most places. Flying at 36,000 feet above the deserts of Outer Mongolia on a clear moonlit night is pretty awesome too.

Monica: They are not that far away from the mountains used in The Lord of the Rings.
