Wairaka and the Saving of Mataatua

One of the great legends of Maori is that of the waka Mataatua and how it was saved by Wairaka, the daughter of the Captain.  It is a fascinating story and I would recommend a few minutes spent reading it.

  2. I love that statue. Isn't it funny that the women would have let everyone perish rather than take control of the boat. And then forever after revere the "girl" that did it.

  3. Interesting story, and one I will pass on. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

"Well behaved women seldom make history." -Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

    Thanks for sharing!
