Can Cows Be Grumpy?

Spesh aka Pat thinks sheep are cute.  Sorry.  Lambs may, just may, be cute but sheep....never.  Anyway Virginia asked whether  Highland Cattle which have been appearing on this blog are ours.  They are not.  They belong to neighbours.  The Cottage is on the edge of The Family's 5-acre 'lifestyle plot ' and the paddock in front belongs to our neighbours although their house is not visible from either The Cottage or The House.

These are cattle grazing in The Family's paddock next to me.  Is it my imagination or is the bullock on the left frowning?  And in the bottom photo is he bemused or about to ask me something?

  1. I can see you making a name for yourself as a bovine portraitist.
Grand shots....I like cattle....dead and alive.

    1. Adrian, for someone who has spent quite a lot of my life as a non-meat-eater I regret to say that I prefer them on my plate than in a field.

  2. Oh dear, he does look like he's frowning and about to say something of the "two word" variety. Maybe he thought you were going to say something rude to his mate, and he was ready to take you on.
I would have to name them all....he looks like a Bull Master.
Loved the photos by the way.

  3. I think he's telling you to get lost and stop waving that camera in his face. (Don't listen to him...)

    1. I shan't Monica. He seems quite unphased by people whereas ones we've had in the past have been quite timid in comparison.

    1. I was surprised, Meike, but I really do think he has an expression on his face.

  6. I think that cows can have moods. I think these guys were probably perturbed because some photographer interrupted their lunch!

  7. Ha! And she is keeping a peripheral eye on him too!
I know a man (not hubby) that just has that grumpy look about him, even when he's not. Imagine the first impressions people have of him. That would be tough!

    1. Good to see you here Doreen. Thanks for the comment. I hadn't thought of that but it could well be the explanation.

  10. Not someone I'd like to get in the way of in a dark field, I'd say, that bullock!
