Mt Egmont/Mt Taranaki

My first view of  Mt Egmont from the Wanganui to New Plymouth road.  It really is an amazing sight and is visible from almost everywhere in the vicinity of New Plymouth. Mount Taranaki, Mount Egmont, or simply Taranaki is an active but quiescent stratovolcano. The 2518-metre-high mountain is one of the most symmetrical volcanic cones in the world. There is a secondary cone, Fanthams Peak, on the south side.

  3. Beautiful landscape and impressive mountain! I agree with Helen, the mountain picture gives a surreal feeling... (I'm also getting Lord of the Rings associations... The films were shot in NZ I know...)

  8. This is a picture perfect photo. The other day at the Parnell Rose Garden festival, an artist had his paintinng of Mt Taranaki, and my husband said,"What a beautfiul photo"

As we approached, a middle aged woman came up and said," You got it all wrong, Mt Taranaki doesn't look like that, I came from _______ (ommph! I forgot)" The artist calmly said, " I paint from Whangarei"

Came over from Pauline's post. Glad to visit another NZ site.
