She was always cheerful. She said that optimism helped her live a long time. I am now kicking myself that I did not ask for an introduction. I was really really wishing I had met her, reading the obituary.

This doesn't exactly relate to your post, but I hope you think it is a bit relevant. Decades ag...I used to sweat the small stuff Helen. Decades ago everything seemed to matter and I gradually realised that so many things don't. One moment of epiphany was when I couldn't get a bed on Skye when the ferry was cancelled. I eventually found one in the hotel in the square at Portree but there was a wedding on and the only room was right above the ballroom and the incessant beat was likely to go on into the wee small hours and I was dead beat. There was a knock on my door and someone from the wedding said that they had heard that I had been given the room and as it would be noisy would I like to come down and join the party. I was too tired (even if I'd been inclined) having driven from Liverpool that day. All of a sudden though I wondered why the noise mattered. Why did it upset me? As soon as I realised that it needn't it didn't and I went straight to sleep. Since then being told that there was nothing they could do for my cancer at the time and that it was 'only a matter of time, let's hope that there's plenty of it" had a profound affect on my outlook on things. It's not something I'd recommend but it does focus the mind on what's important to one.
