I've Inherited a Cat (and Thankful Thursday)

This was supposed to by my Thursday post.

I didn't sleep very well last night but as I still feel rested and good this morning I can't complain.  Today it wasn't the dawn chorus that was the 5 o'clock noise though:  it was Comet.  Yesterday it became clear that she has been keeping Andrea company at The Cottage during the day (as sometimes, apparently, had Misty).  Comet was clearly miffed at having her new friend replaced by this old and decidedly less cat-doting Cottage occupant.

If you're not going to let me in I'm going to sulk (sorry about the reflections!).

I'm just checking you are still here.

So much for 'no animals on the furniture'.

Comet crept into the spare bedroom and managed to stay unnoticed whilst I went out to town.

It looks as though I'm getting softer in my old age. So the thankfulness today comes from Comet and Misty.

  1. The "no animals on the furniture" rule always flies first out of the window! :D

    1. Yes Mersad It looks like that. I'm a lot softer in reality than I am in theory.

  2. Comet certainly seems very much "at home" on that bed... :)

    1. I've since learned, Monica, that Misty and Comet spent a lot of time here at The Cottage (Andreea loves animals) and I'm sure that Comet made herself very much at home in the comfiest and warmest places. She is, after all, a cat.

  3. :-) Lovely. Is the little dog yours Geeb?
I have yet to blog about our four bantams and baby axolotyls.... But It would be a real shock to find THOSE snoozing on our beds!

    1. No Katherine, Misty belongs to The Family. I'm not a pet person and, in any case, my lifestyle is rather unsuited to keeping a pet. I'm very happy to enjoy animals vicariously.

  4. Nice to see you settling back in, catching up with old friends. I wonder if your new relationship will be a lasting one?

    1. Pauline, Misty seems to get lonely in the late afternoons and after nearly a week still comes down and stays with me for an hour our two. Of course she may come down at other times during the day but I'm usually out. Comet, on the other hand, after meowing outside the bedroom ranch slider at 5am for a couple of hours for the first three days has given up and reverted to how it was when I was last here ie she just pops in and out when I'm here just as it suits her.

  5. Animals are such wonderful companions! Happy to hear you're settled in, and feeling well. It's so beautiful there. I'm looking forward to your posts from NZ as much as from Lewis!

    1. Yes, Lisa, although I always think that a dog is more of a companion than a cat. A cat knows loyalty only to itself. A dog is loyal to its human. Leastways that's how I perceive it.

  6. Mixed feelings! I love cats (and most dogs), but ever since my old cat died 1 1/2 years ago, I have missed having a cat to share my flat with me only occasionally, usually after I've met a particularly friendly cat while out for a walk. All things considered, it would be very unfair towards the cat if I had one now. Plus I must admit I enjoy the advantage of not having to clean up behind my often "unclean" cat anymore, and of not having cat hairs on every surface and piece of clothing anymore.

    1. Meike when I had a cat (which I inherited) I loved it and was happy to share my house with him. He had freedom to roam outside though. Dogs come to the house on Lewis and I love having them (and their owners!) to stay but I am always surprised by how much hair they leave behind. It's worth it though for visits but I'm not sure it would be worth it for always.

  7. There is nothing to beat a house full of animals.

    1. Adrian if you'd said there is nothing like a house full of animals I'd have said that was incontrovertible.

  9. No - you are not getting soft in your old age - you are just getting "normal".
Does this mean that Briagha can sleep on your sofa now?!!

    1. Pat I love Briagha (I just don't seem to be able to get her to understand that I don't like being licked) although I suspect she might not find my easy chairs in Eagleton as comfortable as your sofa.

    1. Virginia you are, of course, correct. Cats 'own' us not vice versa.

  11. You seem very settled already, GB, with yout new friends. What do you miss about one home when you're living in the other? Or do you just adapt immediately?

    2. Frances I hardly had to settle in at all this time. I think I can truly call this as much home as Eagleton in its own way. And yes, Frances and Julia, I shall try and do a post on this.

  13. Just an overall thought. Perhaps I was tireder than I thought. I read all the comments on this post as they arrived in my emails but I had completely failed to realise until this morning (Tuesday) that I hadn't acknowledged a single one.
