Postman's Block

I've always known that my life in New Zealand is more organised than my Scottish life because I have croquet and Family and other commitments apart from anything else.  However I hadn't bargained on the fact that my first week back would be so full on and fully occupied.   Today I took the day off and caught up with The Cottage and Blogland and now all I have to do is conquer the inertia that has overtaken me as far as actually writing a blog post is concerned.

I wondered whether my six months without picking up a croquet mallet would mean that I lost my rhythm and ability.   The answer would seem to be that I should take six months off more frequently because I have played ten games since I got back and won 9 of them.

In many ways it's as if I haven't been away:

Jacquie Hudson is still presenting her live Countdown (Supermarket) morning slot

Thursday's weather forecast.  Of course it wasn't like that today - it was warm but cloudy all day.
My first Christmas Card (from the UK) arrived the day after I did.
The first lot of cornflake crunch has been made and devoured already

  1. Christmas cards at the beginning of November?! Wow - that either shows someone is extremely well ahead of time in doing all their christmassy stuff, or does not have much faith in the postal services of the UK and NZ...!
The cornflake crunch looks nice, like muesli bars.

    1. It's sweeter than a muesli bar Meike. It is simply butter, sugar, syrup, chocolate and cornflakes. The Family love it.

  2. Good for you GB!! You certainly have not lost your Midas touch in croquet in six months as you feared.
I hardly mail Christmas cards anymore, only to my older friends who are not joined at the hip to cyberspace. There is something about receiving cards in the mail though. Now I send e-cards via email.
Love that piggy bank with the red heart sunglasses.
Those cornflake crunch bars look delish...I make a marshmallow rice krispies treat bar, but they are also sold in the supermarket. I think I will give your recipe a go.

    1. Virginia I still haven't really got into e-cards although logically there's no difference is there?

Scriptor Senex aka CJ aka my brother posted the recipe here.

  3. Pity it isn't an Olympic sport.....I like the look of the diet.

    1. It's a wonderful sport for young and old alike.

  4. PS. I bet the croquet diet could include a bacon, black pudding, square sausage and two egg bap. An athletes diet fit for a gold medalist.
I am a fan of Croquet....It's two years since I was treated to hoop erecting.....Moss ridding was good but Hoop Erecting should become a sport on it's own.

    1. Adrian Hoop Erecting is too much like hard work to be called a sport as far as I'm concerned. Lying on one's tum and setting and measuring tolerances less than a mm is something that has to be done though. It's preferable, however, not to have had a full Scottish breakfast just beforehand.

  5. Sounds like a good start to the croquet season. Perhaps you kept your brain trained by all the logistic exercises back in your European half of the year... I've got started on preparing my Christmas cards but I won't be posting them before December. One year I received no less than three Christmas cards from the same friend (in England, as it happens), the first one at the end of November and then two more during December... Obviously she was a little stressed out that year!

    1. It has been a good start to the season, Monica, and I'm very grateful for that. I've actually bought some Christmas cards. The next thing is to send them before the last minute.

  6. I suspect that the last date (if one were to actually check the Royal Mail website) for posting to New Zealand in time for Christmas was September the something... Fortunately they are never as bad as they think they are going to be notwithstanding which I bought your card yesterday. Now all I have to do is remember to post it some time.

    1. Yes, CJ, this probably came air mail as most things do. That takes a few days - 5 at most in my experience. Surface mail, though , is quite another matter. Bottles are quicker.

  7. Congratulations on your games! It's good to show them right off the bat that you are still the man to be feared on the croquet field. :)
You may have to share that Corn Flake Crunchie recipe...

    1. Those were the days Lisa. There are too many younger pretenders now waiting in the wings. But my name's up there as champion for three consecutive years and I shall rest content. Good job really because I probably have no option! Fortunately I no longer take it seriously enough to get upset when I lose.

  8. If you are training on a cornflake crunch diet, I hope you've re-acquainted yourself with the dentist !

    1. Marcel, given that my dentist lives less than 100 metres away and eats more of my cornflake crunch than I do I suspect that I'm pretty safe.

(PS. I'd forgotten that - silly me)
