Kingfisher

I've managed to photograph Kingfishers many times around The Cottage but the pictures have almost always either been take from a long distance or in very poor light or thorough a window.  I was fortunate when we were at Mahia to get within 20 to 30 metres of a Kingfisher in bright sunlight with the following results:

  1. Hello Graham:
How wonderful is this. We have only ever once seen a Kingfisher and that was many, many years ago. They are, indeed, the most beautiful of birds. Lucky you!

  4. Aw, really nice shot. I've never got a decent one. They are 'twitchy' little birds and zoom off so quickly. Well done.

  5. I remember when we were at Symnonds Yat together some years ago getting a photo of a British Kingfisher. It was a sort of vague blue streak against the green bank iof the river. These are something of an improvement!!!

{Perhaps you should resurrect your list if NZ birds seen /photographed next year.)

  6. These are brilliant. There are quite a lot around here but I've never seen one up so close. Thanks.

  7. Geeb, I wondered if you'd mind me popping this image (with attribution of course) onto the Ornithological society of New Zealand Facebook page... we are always looking for fab shots like this...
Please say no if you'd rather not.

    1. I'm very happy for my shots to be used so long as it's not for commercial gain. So I'm delighted in this case. A reference back is always a bonus.

  8. Thank you! The OSNZ is a non-profit organisation. Some would say THE birding website for NZ...
