Doing What Kiwis Do

Well huge numbers of them knit.  I have no photos of people knitting whether they be Kiwis or from anywhere else.  However Meike's Mum is a knitter and has written A Sock Knitting Maniac on Meike's blog with plenty of pictures.  This is an unashamed plug for Meike's blog and her give-away in the post I've just mentioned.  The more people who pop over and visit and comment on her blog and enter her give-away the less my chances of winning but, hey, we all have to make sacrifices in this life.

When we were in Mahia last weekend we saw plenty of people doing other things that Kiwis do:

  1. Hmmm... when was the last time I walked on a beach? I am trying hard to remember, it could have been in 2007, on Scarborough's North Bay. Or 2006?
And that after I, for 10 years, spent every summer on Sicily!

Thank you for linking to my giveaway - that has just secured you the 3rd entry :-)

    1. Oh, Meike! Not walked on a beach since 2007? I cannot imagine being away from the sea and a beach for that long. A week is too much for me.

  2. Hello Graham:
Wonderful images of a life which is so very different from anything to be experienced in landlocked Hungary. Clearly a great deal more happening than knitting!

And on that front, this blatant advertising of Meike's wonderful blog is greatly reducing our chances of the socks!!

    1. I cannot imagine living away from the sea. It is just so much a part of me and my heritage. At least presumably Hungary doesn't have the expense of a navy!

  3. Oh Wow! All that driftwood in the back of the car! Kiwis, it seems, are not the only ones that collect driftwood. I am really disappointed if I get back to the car after walking Briagha along one of the beaches and I haven't got an armful of bleached wood. Burns beautifully on the open fire - and it is free!!

It is an absolutely glorious day here on Lewis and so I am just off to walk Briagha along the beach - who knows what treasures I shall find. x

    1. And there is so much to see Katherine as you, being both an artist and observant, know better than many.

  5. Have to say I do neither of those things. Many years ago I used to knit - but never socks! I might possibly pick up a piece of driftwood on the beach for artistic purposes but I'm usually content if I find a few shells ;) The last few years I've only visited a lake beach though, not the seaside. Wonderful photos.

    1. I love driftwood but I rarely see any on Lewis beaches. I could cope with a lakeside if there was no sea but water is essential to my well-being.
