Helen, Fiona - Don't Look

The Garden Orbweb was tucked up under the roof today but I did manage to get a picture of her in the typical 'knees' drawn up posture typical of their daytime inactivity.  The other 'thing' in the picture is, I'm pretty confident, her egg sac.  Alternatively it's something she has put into storage for a snack later if she falls on hard times.

  1. Fascinating pictures of this Garden Orbweb spider and her egg sac.

  2. Help......I thought she should have a cross on her thorax. It is an orb Spider but I'm not convinced it's a Garden Orb.........I've checked the box for a reply. Something I rarely do. Check the box I mean. I always try and reply.
Perhaps it's an All Black, spider load of heathens are they.

  3. I think Adrian is confusing the British Araneus diadematus with the NZ Eriophora transmarina - both known as Garden Orbweb spiders. That's the problem with English names.

  4. CJ has a point about English names. I was going to scan the page in my spider book but found this NZ website which shows 'my' spider: Garden Orbweb Spider

  5. Ta John, it is a foreign one. None the worse for it.
It is different and I'm always confused by different.

  7. Sorry, Monica, I have Helen and Fiona's arachnophobia well logged into my brain over the years and my brain's a bit slow to absorb information!

  8. Hi Denise. Good to see you here. It's a strange post to start with!

  9. I'm probably a bit slow to too... In some corner of my brain I had you registred (until recently!) as not a big fan of spiders yourself. Something said in connection with a photo of a webcovered bush...(?) But I may be mixing things up. Or you have moved on!

  10. I don't share your fascination with spiders so scrolled through quickly. Ugh!

  11. A girl's gotta look out for her future, right? At first I wasn't sure if the spider was that, or a bat.
