Greedy Washing Machine

I've lost a pillow case.  Hardly the subject of a blog post, surely?  But how does one lose a pillow case?  This is not a large cottage after all.    The pillow case was taken off the guest bed and put, along with the sheets, into the washing machine.  When I came to do the ironing there was no pillow case......anywhere.  OK so washing machines and tumble driers eat socks and handkerchiefs (or is it chieves?  For some obscure reason my dictionary doesn't say.) but a whole pillow case?  That's one step too far!

  1. Hilarious. A pillowcase -- hmmm -- Did you check the underside of the sheets that you folded or put back on the bed? Maybe the pillowcase stuck with static cling?

  2. Hello Cynthia. I am just taking a short breather - friends and The Family coming for afternoon tea - and was looking at your oak tree picture. I'll comment on that later when I've read the whole post.

Yes I had thought of them sticking together but I'd have noticed that when I ironed them. It's still a mystery.

  3. Could it be under the bed? I've had them get stuck in the corner of a fitted sheet.

  4. There's only one thing to do, GB. You will need to acquire a ladies bra with an underwire. Just for putting in with the washing, mind. Any washing machine worth its salt will eat that wire before ANYTHING else offered to it.

  5. Pauline is right! Your washing machine was simply starved and needed something as big as a pillow case for sustenance.

  6. My first thought was that if you use duvet covers that might have swallowed the pillow case in the washing machine. Big fish do tend to eat smaller ones! But I'm sure that would not have passed your scrutinous ironing...

I do not recommend Pauline's method. Those wires are vicious weapons and you might end up with a dead machine on your conscience.

  7. No Pauline, it's not a bra you need - it's a pair of socks. The washing machine will always eat one sock from a pair as its first choice.

  9. Oh my gosh! This list of comments made me smile!
    What the....a whole pillowcase???
The bra solution craacked me up.
    Have you found it yet?

  10. Pauline, the days when ladies left their bras around my house are long gone (although there is a rather snazzy satin nightdress on the back of the door of the principal guest bedroom in Eagleton I have to admit).

Monica: The duvet cover wasn't in the washing machine otherwise that would have been the first place I'd have looked.

Thanks for all your help everyone.

Norma (Scrappy Grams) was nearest. It turned up today. It had never reached the washing machine. Despite me looking all through the bedroom twice it was still hiding in between the other pillows which were on the floor (they hadn't been used so hadn't had their cases removed). Mystery solved.
