Talking of Winter

I was driving home from croquet this morning and I kept getting views of the central ranges - these are the Kawakas (I think!).  They were covered in snow and when I got to the Poriati turn-off I stopped and took these shots.  The Ranges are about 40 ks away as the crow flies from where I was standing:

  1. I thought they were the Kaiwekas. Doesn't matter what they are called, they are beautiful. I really like the last shot, despite those damned eternal power lines.

  2. I should have looked it up before I wrote it. According to the map it's the Kaweka Range. But there could, of course,be alternative spellings. They are certainly generally referred to as if they were spelt with and ai and an e.

  3. Snow-capped mountains are exciting for me. Probably because I don't live with the snow all the time. These are really beautiful.

  4. The only time I've seen snowcapped mountains with green landscape below (in real life) was on a trip to Austria many years ago. This is the kind of landscape I used to associate with New Zealand - from films etc. I didn't know you had mountains like these so close to where you live though!

  5. Snow-capped mountains- beautiful! But here in Indiana, I am so weary of snow and the cold rain we're having right now. The calendar says spring, but it lies!
