What a Difference a Day Makes

It has rained solidly since daybreak.  We played 7 games of croquet in the pouring rain.  By the time we had finished we had had more than enough and were wet through.

Then life changed.  I went out to dinner then Eclectic Friend and I went to see The Kings Speech.  What a truly excellent film.  Now I can see what all the fuss and hype has been about.  Now I can see that Colin Firth has become a truly great actor.

I cannot say that I enjoyed the first 7 hours of the day.  But the rest of the day has been as good as it gets.

  1. You Antipodeans.....Lusting after an imaginary homeland...I don't know!
Yes it is a superb film but neglected the fascist element. Something our ruling classes have to be watched for.
I still think Crocodile Dundee is better. Takes a lot to admit it, cos I know it's pure entertainment.
I was annoyed watching The Kings Speech. Annoyed but not challenged. It's thick as a bag at Tan Hill so have been reading the blogs. Thanks for posting

  2. I think that if I'd been playing in the rain that long I'd have lost all concentration in feeling cold and miserable. How did you and the others do that?
Adrian, your comment makes me think I'll wait for the movie to come out on DVD to save several dollars.

  3. As usual I can't believe how quickly you're able to "bounce back" after a day like that!

  4. I am not lusting after my homeland, stable ground maybe, but happy in NZ.
I have however watched The King's Speech twice and was riveted. My adoration of Colin Firth is intact, even if he did not rise out of a pool in a white shirt. He deserved his award. They were all good.
    Don't wait for the DVD....

Interested the American version is cutting out all the swearing. Will take away the impact of the mental struggle.

  5. Adrian: Yes. Crocodile Dundee was a realy fun film and I enjoy it every time I see it. "This is a knife!" But The Kings Speech is not about the politics and there are inaccuracies (Churchill would never have been involved with the King at that stage, for example) but it's a personal story made for public consumption. Sorry. I didn't mean to sound pompous.

Scrappy Gran: You will see a sanitized version in the US. A bit sad really. I hope that it's enjoyable for you though.

Monica: Yes. I'm pretty rubbery and just can't get past carpe diem.

Fiona: I'm not quite sure where Adrian's lusting for homeland emanates from. I agree with your comment although I'm sure most of my female readers will more vigorously endorse your comment on C F!
